Test Engineers are responsible for designing, implementing, and executing test plans to validate that government digital solutions meet the necessary functional, security, and performance standards. Their work is crucial in the context of digital transformation, where the goal is to enhance the efficiency, accessibility, and user experience of public services.

Key Responsibilities


  • Developing Test Strategies: Create comprehensive test plans and strategies that outline testing scope, objectives, resources, and timelines to ensure thorough coverage of all functionalities.
  • Designing and Executing Test Cases: Develop and execute manual and automated test cases to validate software functionality, performance, and security, ensuring alignment with user requirements and specifications.
  • Performing Functional and Non-Functional Testing: Conduct various types of testing, including functional, regression, integration, and performance testing, to ensure that systems operate effectively under expected conditions.
  • Identifying and Reporting Defects: Identify, document, and track defects, providing detailed information to development teams for troubleshooting and resolution, ensuring timely fixes to maintain project schedules.
  • Collaborating with Development Teams: Work closely with software developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements, provide feedback, and ensure testing aligns with project goals.
  • Implementing Test Automation: Utilise automation tools and frameworks to create automated test scripts, increasing testing efficiency and coverage while reducing manual testing efforts.
  • Ensuring Compliance with Standards: Verify that all products and services meet public sector compliance, accessibility, and security standards, safeguarding user data and ensuring adherence to government regulations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with industry trends, testing tools, and methodologies to continuously improve testing processes and practices within the organisation.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of software testing methodologies, tools, and frameworks, including both manual and automated testing techniques.
  • Analytical Skills: Excellent analytical abilities to interpret test results, identify issues, and assess the impact on overall system performance and user experience.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose defects, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with development teams for effective resolution.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication skills to clearly articulate testing outcomes, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and report on testing progress to stakeholders.
  • Agile Methodology Familiarity: Understanding of Agile practices and principles to integrate testing seamlessly within iterative development processes.
